China's agriculture ministry starts animal feed regulation review

On Tuesday (Mar 27), the Ministry of Agriculture of China started to seek public opinion on the draft management regulation on the quality and safety of feed and feed additives, reported Xinhua News Agency.

In a total of eight chapters and 47 items, the draft regulation stipulates practices that feed producers should abide by in the procurement of raw materials and management.

The draft regulation says feed producers should make lists of qualified providers, record the names and production areas of raw materials and take effective measures to prevent cross-contamination and foreign infections during the manufacturing process.

Excessive levels of aflatoxin, a cancer-causing toxin, were discovered in two batches of milk products sold in China in December, triggering a new round of food safety scare, the news agency said.
