Russia imports more Australian beef

Australian beef exports to Russia increase from 870 tonnes in February 2010 to 3,026 tonnes in February 2011.

However, shipments remain much lower than the volumes seen during the last three months of 2010, when trade expanded due to high demand from local importers, decreased competition from the US market and low supplies from South America.

Russian importers are currently waiting for the distribution of the remaining 75% of the import quota for 2011 (due 15 April), as most of the initial distribution has already been used, including shipments from late 2010.

During February, 39% of exports to Russia consisted of manufacturing beef, followed by silverside (30%), chuck & blade (21%) and thick flank (5%).
