FMD fears prompt Bulgarians to oppose slaughter of animals
Protest against the slaughter of 7000 animals has been expressed by the community from the Strandzha region in Bulgaria.
Currently, there are fears that Foot-and-Mouth disease (FMD) is spreading. Goliamo Bukovo, Fakia and Momina Tsarkva villages near the town of Sredets have been found to have FMD. Locals have called for a protest near Fakia on Saturday (Apr 2).
The villagers protested saying that the culling of the animals will strip them of their livelihood. There is also fear that the restoration of herds will not occur which will leave the Strandzha region desolate.
