EU experts inspect two poultry plants in Belarus

A team of EU experts in animal welfare was in Belarus from March 15-23 and toured the Vitebsk and Soligorsk poultry plants, which are keen on export opportunities to the EU, according to the ministry's specialists.

The ministry did not specify when the results of the inspection would be issued. ''Everything will depend on how fast the EU experts will compile a report,'' the specialists said.

That has been the second inspection by EU experts this year. The country has already passed several stages to get qualified to export dairy products to the EU. The interaction with EU inspectors is closely monitored by the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Vitebsk Broiler Plant is one of the biggest poultry producers in Belarus. The plant makes dressed poultry, semi-cooked and cooked products (sausages, smoked products).

Soligorsk poultry farm makes smoked and pickled eggs. The company is implementing new technologies to produce and process poultry meat, and rears new crossbreeds. The company has a quality and safety control laboratory.
