China's Sanyuan expands duck production near Beijing
Beijing Sanyuan Group has started construction of its Peking duck complex in Chengde, a city northeast of Beijing.
Once completed, the complex would have an annual processing capacity of 10 million Peking ducks, a traditional and popular dish in Beijing.
Sanyuan has an existing subsidiary that produces about 5 million Peking ducks a year.
The Group is the largest agriculture and food integrator in Beijing and owns more than 30 state farms and specialized companies covering livestock, fruit and vegetables.
It also runs another 41 joint ventures with overseas investors such as McDonald's, Hormel and Starbucks.
Last year, the company opened its Chengde-based subsidiary, with operations including dairy farming, pig breeding, as well as the Peking duck complex, with total investment of RMB$ 780 million (US$ 100 million).
