EU expects 1.7% rise in 2012's soft wheat crop yields

EU's forecasting agency said that the average yield for the EU's soft wheat crop should rise 1.7% on the year to 5.67 tonnes a hectare in 2012.

The bloc's total barley crop average yield is expected to increase 2.6% on the year to 4.41 tonnes a hectare, the Monitoring Agricultural Resources (MARS) body said in a report seen by Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday (Mar 27). This is its first estimates for the upcoming harvest.

MARS said the average yield of the EU's corn crop will fall 6.3% on the year to 7.03 tonnes a hectare, while the average yield for sugar beets is estimated to decrease by 3.1% on the year to 68.65 tonnes a hectare.
