Bangladesh spends big on bird flu
Avian influenza has caused Bangladesh's poultry industry to spend BDT2 billion (US$27.5 million) in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
"The loss will be BDT55 billion (US$755 million) if it is estimated from 2007," World Poultry Science Association (WPSA) Bangladesh branch secretary general, Abdus Salek, said.
According to the media, bird flu flared up again in the country early this year and caused the authorities to cull over 100,000 chickens.
Salek said, "It is possible for the poultry industry to avoid such colossal loss if the farm owners can maintain cleanliness."
