Pakistani province asks to limit cattle exports

Chief Minister of Pakistani province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti asks the Federal government to impose a 50% quota in cattle exports to Afghanistan.

Huge exports of cattle, poultry and frozen meat to neighbouring country Afghanistan are causing difficulties in meeting local demand, said Hoti on Thursday (Mar 24). There is a need to impose a 50% quota in animal export to Afghanistan, he said.

The provincial government has issued directives to Food and Livestock departments to investigate the smuggling of cattle to Afghanistan. He said that officials involved in smuggling cases have been removed. Hoti said that they would not take any steps that will cause their own people to suffer and help meet the requirements of others instead.
