Androgenix develops new technology for livestock gender selection

New Zealand company Androgenix Ltd has come up with a technology that will enable dairy farmers to use female bearing sperm to breed for herd replacements from their best milk-producing cows.

Livestock industries, particularly dairy, give high value to the ability to select for gender.

There is an established artificial insemination market worth US$2.4 billion each year in the OECD.

The company is planning to incorporate it a single-use sperm sex selection device that will provide multiple benefits for the global dairying industry, especially the increased rate of genetic gain through breeding from the top portion of a herd.

Androgenix plans to make the technology readily accessible to artificial insemination companies.

Androgenix is a biotechnology company that applies genomic technology for the development of products with application in the worldwide livestock industry.
