Western Brand Poultry to invest GBP 6 million in poultry plant
The Northern Ireland poultry firm has announced a GBP 6 million (US$12 million) investment in its County Fermanagh poultry plant in order to target retail markets located south of the border.
Western Brand acquired the facility in July 2006 and was processing products with it before the end of December 2006.
The company had looked at a couple of sites before deciding to invest in the Lisnaskea-based plant, according to Eugene Lannon, managing director of Western Brand.
"This was essential because we have ambitious growth plans for our business with retail multiples in the Republic. We have identified a substantial number of opportunities there and need to assure existing and potential customers that they could count on consistent and highly quality supply across our range of products," said Lannon.
Stormont Economy Minister Nigel Dodds praised the investment as he believes it will boost the economy of County Fermanagh and develop the domestic food industry.
Invest Northern Ireland has provided GBP 497,000 (US$997,487) for the investment as well.
Western Brand Poultry in Lisnaskea, produces breaded chicken and egg products for the UK and Irish markets.
