Chicken prices falling across Malaysia

The price of broiler chickens has dropped by 40-55 cents per kg across Malaysia, according to the Federation of Livestock Farmers' Associations of Malaysia.

Farm price of live chicken has dropped from MYR3.70 to MYR3.30 per kg, wholesale price from MYR4.40 to MYR4 per kg, and retail price from MYR5.10 to MYR4.70 per kg, the Federation said.

The wholesale price of dressed chicken dropped from MYR5.20 to MYR4.70 per kg, while the retail price of dressed chicken with shank, head, liver and gizzard dropped from MYR6 to MYR5.55 per kg.

Retail price of dressed chicken without shank, head, liver and gizzard dropped from MYR7.40 to MYR6.90 per kg.

Federation chairman Kwei Yew Tong said the price drop was the result of the current financial and economic setback facing Malaysia.

The farm price has to drop in line with a decline in demand, Kwei said.
