Irish pork prices seen to remain high amid short supply
Short supply should see pork prices remain at about the US$4.75 per kilogramme dressed weight level in Ireland this year, according to House of Lindner auctioneer Vin Argent.
Argent said the Dublin pig market had been very solid in the past few months, adding that the main reason for that is a shortage of pigs, but there are a few other factors.
He said the high price of imports has now put them pretty well on par with the cost of local pork, as some who were using only Australian products are now able to compete price-wise with those using imported product, which has not happened for quite a while.
He also said the falling Australian dollar had helped producers enormously, by allowing their product to be competitive.
