Grain-fed fish have better texture
Researchers with the Shanghai Fisheries University have found a new grain feed that could make fish taste better.
The university's life sciences college director Leng Xiangjun discovered that fresh water fish grow finer and smoother flesh if the adults are fed certain grains and are raised in slightly salted water, The Shanghai Daily reported.
The fish are fed a mix of soybean and cotton to replace ordinary feed. These plants helps to increase protein content and also acid glutamic, a major component of gourmet powder.
Fillets made from such fish also had 10 to 30 percent more elasticity than naturally-grown fish.
