Vietnam's An Giang farmers expand immature corn growing area
Farmers in Cho Moi District, An Giang Province of Vietnam has expanded a model of growing immature corn in 2011-12 winter-spring crop, covering an area of 7,000 hectares mainly in communes of Tan My, Binh Phuoc Xuan and Kien An.
The model was signed by An Giang Fruit-Vegetables & Foodstuff Joint Stock Company (Antesco) for supplying materials for export processing and taking advantages by-products to breeding cows.
The model has brought high economic efficiency for farmers in Cho Moi District with the net profit of VND60-70 (US$0.002-0.003) per hectare per year.
Antesco has been encouraging farmers to grow immature corns and breeding cows in the first phase of the winter-spring crop, synchronously carrying out encouraging farmers in the second phase of 2012 summer-autumn crop.
