Thailand's CPF works on environment-friendly poultry farms
Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CPF) will focus on environment-friendly initiatives and decreasing the use of animal vaccinations to ensure safety and high-quality products for poultry consumers.
After monitoring poultry farms in Kanchanaburi province, Somporn Jermpong, senior vice president of Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CPF), said that the company is focused on decreasing environmental issues, reducing energy usage, and being mindful of their impact on the surrounding community. Somporn added that the company has decided to implement a bio-gas system within a lagoon, which ensures that waste water will not leak into the soil. The top of the lagoon is covered by a plastic polyethylene which prevents foul smells from escaping, and as a result, decreases the number of flies and insects that may be attracted to the smell.
Somporn said that water from the farm would undergo a special treatment process to meet sanitation requirements before being released. After the treatment process, the water would be clean enough for agricultural purposes, and many local farmers have expressed interest in using the water in their sugar cane farms.
Ventilators and a complexed air purifying system will also be used to assist in decreasing foul smells. Meanwhile, the natural materials such as coir or coconut fibres will be used to trap the smell, in order to reduce negative externalities for nearby communities. Moreover, the use of medicine and vaccines on animals will be reduced to ensure high quality products.
