Thai lab produces low-cost cell-permeabilizing reagent ENZhance

Press Release

The Enzyme Technology Laboratory of Thailand's National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) has developed an effective low cost cell-permeabilizing reagent, ENZhance, for local industrial use.

The need to initiate this project stems from the fact that Thailand imports almost all of its enzymes worth $25 million for industrial use, according to Dr Lily Eurwilaichitr, research and project team leader at the laboratory.

ENZhance works to improve the efficiency and sensitivity of enzyme assay. The optimised protocol allows efficient detection of a wide range of target enzymes, which can easily developed into high-throughout screening. The reagent is applicable for enzyme screening in most bacteria, including gram-negative, gram-positive, and actinomycetes. The most important aspects of ENZhance are that it is effective and economical.
