SCA NuTec's Amino Protek helps increase milk yields
Dairy producers can help their herds fully utilise protein from grazed grass and increase milk yields by adding SCA NuTec's Amino Protek in their rations, said Norman Downey, ruminant specialist for the animal nutrition company.
Amino Protek is a sugar-mineral complex which works by improving rumen efficiency. It binds with all the protein sources in the rumen and slows protein release, allowing the cow to utilise nutrients more fully.
The result is an increase in metabolisable protein which leads to a rise in milk yield.
Improving protein utilization is especially relevant during this time because of the pressure of higher input costs and opportunities presented by increasing milk prices, Downey said.
Trials in the UK have shown that adding Amino Protek to rations at a rate of 100 grams each day for a cow results in an increase of 2 to 2.5 litres of milk each cow in their first 200 days of lactation.
There were more persistent yields in mid- and late-lactation cows.
