Russia may ban rice, oil seeds from India starting May 2007
Russia might ban import of rice, sesame and groundnuts from India if New Delhi failed to take corrective measures following the confiscation of several shipments of Indian food products which was found to contain pesticides and other contaminants.
Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor advised India to furnish safety certificates on its food exports, including the use of pesticides and other specifics. If India unable to comply with the requirement, Rosselkhoznadzor, in a statement, said it will impose restrictions beginning May 1, until measures are taken to guarantee compliance with Russian food safety standards.
Russia had earlier introduced a ban on the import of rice and other agri products from Pakistan it found a dangerous bug in its shipments.
