Mynamar experiences new bird flu outbreak
Myanmar reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that a new outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been detected in the country.
The veterinary authority sent follow up report to the OIE.
The report described an outbreak of HPAI on an egg farm in the centre of the country at Fame Kar village in the Sagaing region. It started on March 16 in two flocks of layers aged four months and 19 months. There were two layer units and a total of 780 chickens and a few chickens were found dead respectively since March 16. A total number of 350 chickens died within four days and the rest of the flock has since been destroyed.
The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
