Mid-western Nepal struck by bird flu

Bird flu has been detected in four places of Banke district in mid-western Nepal.

According to reports, district livestock services office of Banke, some 365 km west of Kathmandu, confirmed the prevalence of bird flu in the district on Tuesday (March 23), after it received a report from the central laboratory in Kathmandu.

It had sent samples of poultry products to the laboratory after over 150 chickens and ducks died in a short span in Binauna, Kohalpur, Phattepur and Nepalgunj.

Authorities have started taking special measures to control the virus from spreading. They have declared Chacharpharka of Binauna- 4 as the hotspot and decided to cull and desterilise poultry and poultry products in and around the area.

An emergency meeting of chiefs of various offices in the district has decided to take the special measures in Chacharpharka and 500 metres around it.

Although, bird flu was found in Kohalpur, Phattepur and Nepalgunj municipality, authorities said that necessary action have already been taken in those places.
