Norwegian salmon gets safeguards from EU
The EU Commission made a decision this week to place an average 16 percent anti-dumping tariff on Norwegian salmon. This new tariff is to prevent Norwegian salmon producers from selling their fish in the EU market at prices that other European producers cannot compete with.
This means that a fish farmer selling salmon to a buyer within the European Union at NOK 24 per kilo would get only NOK 20, according to newspaper Bergens Tidende. Norwegian producers would also end up with higher profits.
Norwegian salmon share-analyst Helge Moen said the small and middle sized fish farmers who only farm in Norway, would be hardest hit by a punitive duty.
