US firm recalls organic eggs over salmonella fears
California's den Dulk Poultry Farms has recalled its organic brown eggs over concerns of possible salmonella contamination, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The eggs were distributed to retailing giants Costco and Safeway in Northern California, Fresno, and in western Nevada, said the FDA.
The eggs sold at Costco are ''Kirkland Organic Brown Eggs'' packaged in 18-count cartons. The end of the carton notes ''Expiration date April 1 062/plant code 35 P1776; expiration date April 8 069/plant code 35 P1776''.
The eggs sold at 71 Safeway and Pack n' Save stores are ''O Organic Grade A Large Brown Eggs'' packaged in 12-count cartons. The end of the carton notes ''Expiration date April 1 062/plant code 35 P1776''.
The FDA said the recall was initiated after the eggs were tested positive for the salmonella pathogen during an internal investigation by den Dulk Poultry Farms.
