Australian wheat exporters losing out on port delays
Australia's US$3.2 billion what export industry is losing sales to rival markets due to rail and port delays, the Australian Financial Review said.
Australia's three largest wheat buyers, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan, have expressed concern that ships have to wait for several weeks at four ports in Western Australia to load grain.
Flour mills in Asia have turned to the US and Canada to buy wheat at higher prices because of the delays, and Australia's credibility as an efficient and reliable grain supplier is under threat.
