Argentina beef exports surge 36 percent in first two months of 2008
Argentina has shipped 82.907 tonnes of beef valued at US$294.3 million over the first two months of the year, gaining a 36 percent rise in volume and a 65 percent growth in value on-year.
For January to February, Argentina exported 5.261 tonnes of beef tenderloin to EU members including Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Britain and Spain, attaining a foreign exchange of US$66.5 million, the Argentine national bureau of agricultural food quality and sanitation said.
The country also exported to other markets 46.95 tonnes of fresh and frozen beef worth US$177.3 million, 4.786 tonnes of processed beef worth US$15 million and 25.91 tonnes of guts worth US$35.4 million dollars.
Argentina is a major beef producer and exporter worldwide. It has exported a total of 474,800 tonnes of beef in 2007, earning US$1.45 billion in foreign exchange, up 1.45 percent and 10 percent, respectively, over 2006.
