Ukraine's spring-grain sowings to grow by 29%
 

 

For the 2012 harvest, Ukraine's farmers will sow 29% more land with spring grain than last year, Interfax-Ukraine reported, citing Oleksandr Demydov, head of the Agriculture Ministry's markets department.

 

Spring grain planting will be 9.98 million hectares (24.66 million acres), Interfax cited Demydov as saying. Wheat plantings will rise 23% to 350,000 hectares and barley 24% to 3.2 million hectares, he said.

 

The area sown with corn may increase 38% to five million hectares, according to the Kiev-based newswire.
