Nebraska's cattle on feed down 6 percent on March

 
 

The number of cattle on feed in Nebraska as of March 6 has declined 6 percent from the previous year.

 

Feedlots in the state with capacities of 1,000 or more contained nearly 2.33 million cattle on March, according to the USDA's National Statistics Service.

 

Placements during February totalled 310,000 head, down 11 percent from 2008, but matched placements in February 2001 - the lowest for the month - since the information was first collected in 1994.

 

Marketings of fed cattle in February totalled 370,000 head, up 3 percent from last year.
