Viterra eyes West Australia's rapeseed market
Canadian grain handler Viterra is looking to become a big player in West Australia's rapeseed market following the deregulation of prescribed grains.
Australian Agriculture Minister last week scrapped the controversial Grain Licensing System in West Australia, and Viterra intends to participate in the deregulated market with a long-term view.
Viterra Australasia senior grain trader Stephen Brooks said West Australia's rapeseed would be the company's main focus due to the high reliability and quality of export surplus, and the company would also be in the West Australian market for wheat and barley.
Viterra plans to market West Australian rapeseed to Japan, now the Grain Pool's largest for the crop, as well a to Europe and the Indian sub-continent.
Brooks said the company did not rule out investment in supply chain infrastructure in West Australia, but indicated it will be dependent on how well CBH manages the supply chain and costs.
