Imports of grain by Belarus increased in January by 40.4 percent on the year to 58,800 tonnes, the Statistics Ministry reported Friday.

The cost of the imports increased to US$11.3 million from US$7 million a year earlier.

Kazakhstan was the largest supplier in January with 50,500 tonnes, followed by Russia at 2,900 tonnes, as well as small amounts from Ukraine, Vietnam and India.

Kazakhstan is becoming Belarus' main grain supplier, while imports from other countries are falling significantly, the ministry said.
