Austria's oilseeds production reaches 255,837 tonnes in 2005
Total oilseeds production in Austria reached 255,837 tonnes in 2005, according to USDA's Mar 16 report on Austrian oilseeds and products.
Austria's total area for oilseeds production in 2005 increased by 9,230 hectares compared with the previous year, amounting to 105,575 hectares. Soybean plantings in 2005 stood at 21,429 hectares, showing an increase in planting areas. Oilseed winter rape acreage in 2005 was 35,022 hectares, almost the same as the year before.
The main oilseed crop in Austria is winter rapeseed which made up 41 percent of the total production in 2005. Soybeans accounted for 24 percent in 2005.
As there was smaller acreage, total winter rape production decreased by 13.6 percent to 103,839 tonnes in 2005. However, soybean production rose sharply by 35.1 percent due to increased planting area compared with 2004. Total soybean production reached 60,573 tonnes in 2005.
