Spanish meat firm to open specialty sausage plant

Spain's Pata Negra will open a new specialty sausage plant in Gloversville, N.Y.

This was announced by Fulton County Centre for Regional Growth.

The 23,000-square-foot plant, which previously housed a leather company, is being renovated to add the necessary drying rooms. When it opens, the facility will produce Spanish-style cured meats using US and imported pork and Spanish spices. The plant is expected to employ up to 12 people.

Pata Negra LLC, which is owned by the Spanish firm Pata Negra Jan SL, will operate the plant and plans to start production in the spring.

Initially, it will focus on Spanish chorizo flavoured with garlic, pimenton (paprika) and other spices and will distribute its products to restaurants and retailers in the Northeast. Pata Negra Jan SL produces an array of gourmet products in Europe, including Iberico ham, sausages, and prepared foods.
