Japan to ship in more seafood from Thailand
As the Japanese disaster brought about severe damage to some food factories in Sendai city, an important fishing area in Japan, Thailand's major processor and exporter of canned and frozen seafood, Thai Union Frozen Products (TUF), anticipates Japan to ship in more Thai seafood.
Theerapong Chansiri, Chief Executive Officer of TUF, noted that the devastating natural disaster in Japan is one of the worst crisis ever witnessed, and has left thousands dead.
Widespread destruction, including Sendai city, an important fishing area that is home to a large number of seafood processing plants will require at least two months to recover. Therefore, he predicted that Japan will have to import more Thai foods, especially seafood.
