Cuban egg production in recovery

Poultry farmers in Camaguey province, Cuba are working hard to return production levels following the 2008 hurricanes.

The main goal of the poultry growers in the Cuban eastern province of Camaguey is to recoup the production levels, once achieved before two devastating hurricanes severely affected the province and particularly the sector in 2008.

Jacinto Torres Armenteros, director of the Poultry Company in Camaguey, said that approximately 20 million eggs have been produced hitherto; a figure that still does not meet the demand of the family basic food basket and of the social consumption.

Aiming at reaching higher levels of egg production, several measures have been taken in the territory, among them the enlargement of Chile Libre farm, which has nine bird houses fully operating and there will be another eight before the year ends.

The purpose this year of the poultry farmers in Camaguey is to produce 115 million eggs, which will exceed the production plan that they assume with same levels of efficiency.
