Ukraine to increase corn planting area

Ukraine is expected to increase corn-sowing area in 2010, according to market analysts.

The forecast is based on the current economic situation on the market of corn, and confirmed by the partial results of the polling of agricultural producers, gathered by APK-Inform Agency in the study, "Ukraine: Sowing campaign 2009-10."

Most of agricultural producers of Ukraine (52% of the questioned respondents) do not plan to increase corn-sowing areas. At the same time, 33% of agrarians declared they would increase the grain sowing areas due to the stable demand and acceptable prices for grains, and also due to keeping of efficient rotation rates. For the same reasons, 1% of respondents started growing corn.

At the same time, 14% of the questioned respondents plan to decrease or refrain from corn sowing in the current year. The contradiction of corn purchasing prices to the prime cost and observation of crop rotation rates are the main reasons of such decisions.
