FDA approves US production of Posilac milk supplement
Monsanto Company announced on Mar 20 that full production of Posilac bovine somatotropin (bst) at its manufacturing facilities in Augusta, Georgia has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
The product is used to increase milk production in dairy cows. Monsanto states that cows supplemented with the product produce an average of 4.5 kilograms more milk per day.
Posilac bst is currently produced at a Monsanto plant in Austria. Kevin Holloway, president of Monsanto's dairy business said the additional production capacity will allow the company to meet the needs of current customers as well as catering to new customers as well.
