Cut waste, gives better feed with Roxell HaiKoo pan for chicks

Belgian-based Roxell launched its third oval-based broiler feeding pan at the VIV Asia 2005 animal husbandry and feed show in Bangkok.

The HaiKoo pan, developed especially for day-old chicks, has a low pan edge that offers easy access, while at the same time, because of the large feeding surface, birds have optimal eating comfort. "This is crucial for a good start up of the flock," explains Frank Hartmann, product manager of broiler systems.

Hartmann points out that HaiKoo has several features to stimulate the chicks. One is the fast 360-degree flooding of the pans. The reduced cone content results in a high frequency of the delivery of fresh feed, whereas on trays or paper, feed quality deteriorates quickly, not to mention the loss of feed. The grill design assures that birds stay out of the HaiKoo pan from the 10th day onwards.

It is striking to see that in practice many chicks are already eating nicely and plenty from the outside at three days of age, said Hartmann.

Roxell also focused a lot of attention to the economy of feed. Feed waste is greatly eliminated by the high anti-waste rim. The designers also incorporated a unique circular trough in the centre of the pan, similar to the one in their Minimax pan. It guarantees that the feed is kept central, far away from the edge. Anti-spill wings on the cone prevent older birds from flicking the feed.

With meal time feeding, it is crucial that all birds get feed at their disposal in a wink of an eye.

This can be done only when the pans offer sufficient feeding space and fill up quickly enough over the full line. According to Hartmann growers who are applying or want to apply meal time or controlled feeding finally have the tool they need. Several pilot houses for meal time feeding have been performing extremely successfully.

"HaiKoo, with a feeding space of 1140 mm and a large feeding surface, offers up to 14 percent more birds per pan than most standard broiler pans. The output capacity of the feeder lines can be increased up to 700 kg/hour," he said.

Each HaiKoo pan feeds from 57 up to 91 birds of about 1.8 kg end weight. Producers growing heavy broilers can count on 57 to 85 birds per pan.

Roxell is so confident of its products that it is offering a 10-year digressive guarantee on the HaiKoo pan and the augers.
