Russia's Zabaykalsky Krai reports FMD outbreak

 

 

An outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Russia's Zabaykalsky Krai was reported by the Russian veterinary authorities, affecting cattle, sheep/goats and swine populations.

 

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on March 18, 2013. The FMD was initially observed on March 8 and confirmed on March 17.

 

A total of 2,245 cattle were found susceptible, out of which 169 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded and no animals were destroyed.

 

In the case of pigs, 2,053 showed signs of susceptibility, out of which seven cases were reported. No deaths were recorded and no animals were destroyed.
