Russia's Romcor to construct pig breeding complex in Chelyabinsk Region

Russia's Romcor is expected to commence the building of a pig-breeding complex in June in the Chelyabinsk Region worth RUB6 billion (US$205 million), the press office of the region's governor said Tuesday (Mar 20), RIA Novosti reported.

Of the total investments into the project, 63% of the funds are to be borrowed with the remaining of 37% to be injected from Romcor's own funds, the region's agriculture ministry said.

The capacity of the project is seen to reach 7,600 tonnes of meat in live weight annually. Such a high rate of productivity is expected to cover Romcor's demand in pork to be used for processing. The project is to be realised in four stages.

Romcor plans to start processing pork in November 2015, with the complex' first stage seen to reach its projected capacity in 2016.

Romcor also said that the future complex is to be equipped with mostly Austrian-made technologies.

The creation of its own raw material base would enable Romcor to increase its production volume, while simultaneously decreasing the production costs.

In 2011, the company produced 17,100 tonnes of meat products, up 15% on the year. Romcor plans to produce 21,000 tonnes of meat products in 2012.
