Mekong Delta shrimps die due to diseases, bad weather

Shrimps have massively died in several provinces in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta region due to diseases and unfavourable weather conditions, state media reported Tuesday (Mar 20).

Farmers in provinces Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang and other said that diseases have attacked 130,000 hectares cultivating shrimp, causing shrimp death at over 50%, the newspaper said.

In Ca Mau alone, shrimp died massively in 200 hectares in Phu Tan district and over 4,000 hectares in districts Dam Doi, Ngoc Hien and Cai Nuoc after long-lasting rain.

As a result, processing plants of Quoc Viet and Minh Phu have no material for production and thousands of their workers have been forced to stay at home.
