Brazil's 2006/07 soy crop 48 percent harvested as of March 20

Brazil's 2006/07 soy crop is 48 percent harvested as of March 20, agribusiness consultancy AgRural said Tuesday (Mar 20).

The number is 11 points higher than the last week's estimate and 11 points higher in comparison to the 2005/06 soy harvest at this time.

Farmers throughout Brazil continue to benefit from good harvest weather.

The leading soy-producing state of Mato Grosso has 86 percent of its crop harvested, followed by no. 2 producer Parana with 62 percent harvested at this time. The no. 3 producer state of Rio Grande do Sul is just 4 percent harvested, having started harvesting last week.

Northern Mato Grosso is finishing up the final days of the 2006/07 harvest.

Brazil should harvest 57.4 million tonnes of soybeans this season, AgRural estimates.

The top three producers should harvest roughly 15.5 million tonnes in Mato Grosso, 12 million tonnes in Parana and 9.5 million tonnes in Rio Grande do Sul, AgRural said.
