South Africa's 2006/07 corn exports climb to 486,721 tonnes

 

 

South Africa's corn exports since May 2006 rose by 35,177 tonnes to 486,721 tonnes last week, South African Grain Information Service showed in its weekly report.

 

The bulk of exports during the week went to Namibia with 2,251 tonnes while Zimbabwe, whose grain harvest has been written off by the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation due to poor agricultural input and dry weather, is still the number one destination for corn exports at 108,886 tonnes of total export volumes.

 

There were no corn imports on during the week, leaving the total imports since last year May at 761,474 tonnes.

 

South Africa's wheat imports since October last year rose by 15,380 tonnes to 214,294 tonnes last week, SAGIS showed in its weekly report.

 

Argentine wheat imports totalled 132,738 tonnes--66.7 percent of total imports)-- German wheat imports are at 32,070 tonnes and Canadian imports are at 31,572 tonnes.

 

A total of 5,379 tonnes of wheat was exported through South Africa's harbours last week, with the total wheat exports from South Africa since October last year at 95,758 tonnes.
