Dow Building & Construction introduces insulation solutions for the agricultural market

Press release

Controlling the indoor environment of agricultural buildings is critical for ensuring energy efficiency and decreasing operating costs.  Dow Building and Construction responds to these concerns by offering insulation products specially designed to meet these challenges.

THERMAX™ White Finish Insulation / Finish Board, FROTH-PAK™ and STYROFOAM™ Ag Board can help control the indoor environment of agricultural buildings, helping to protect livestock, reduce animal stress and cut down on crop spoilage, as well as minimise damage to the building itself.

Once installed, these products offer thermal and moisture protection, provide comfort, require little maintenance and can be used with other Dow products or individually to provide application-specific solutions.  When Dow's agricultural insulation products are used together, they can generate a potential yearly energy savings of US$27,704 within three years (based on a farm with four broilers).

"We know that the agricultural industry is looking for efficient ways to lower costs and improve operational performance," said Scott Young, Dow Building & Construction's North American senior market manager.  "We are excited to add several new agricultural products to Dow's full line of building envelope solutions.  They are easy to install and maintain and dramatically improve the energy efficiency and moisture management within the building."

This year, Dow is introducing THERMAX™ White Finish, a rigid board insulation / finish board with a glass-fiber-reinforced polyisocyanturate foam core. With R-values of 6.5 an inch, THERMAX™ White Finish insulation reduces energy flow in and out of the agricultural building, saving heating and cooling costs.  The glass-fiber reinforcement, along with improved formulations, contributes to improved fire performance and enhanced dimensional stability.

THERMAX™ White Finish complies with FM Global Approval Standard 4880 and can be installed exposed to the interior without a thermal barrier.  The white embossed acrylic facer helps reduce light and improves the work and growing environment.  THERMAX™ White Finish Boards come in a range of thicknesses and lengths up to 30 inches, are lightweight, easy to handle and install, can be pressure washed up to 1,000 psi and come with a 15-year thermal warranty.

Also new this year is the FROTH-PAK™ two-component spray polyurethane foam. FROTH-PAK™ is typically used as a foam insulating sealant to fill cavities, wall and floor penetrations, cracks and expansion joints.  It can also be used in cold storage facilities and refrigerated trailers. FROTH-PAK™ includes a temperature indicator for maximum product performance and its INSTA-FLO™ gun provides foam dispensing control and precise monitoring.

STYROFOAM™ Ag Board is an extruded polystyrene insulation board with shiplapped edges that help reduce heat loss and gain.  It can be left exposed on the ceiling and walls of buildings not occupied by humans.  STYROFOAM™ Ag Board is a closed-cell structure that leaves no voids or gaps for water penetration, thus providing high moisture resistance.  It is available in a wide range of thicknesses and lengths, is lightweight and easy to cut, can be pressure-washed at 800 psi and comes with a 15-year thermal warranty.
