Informa Economics Inc., an analytical firm based in Memphis, was said to have pegged 2005 US corn plantings at 82.8 million acres and soybean seedings at 73.2 million acres. This suggests a significant switch over to corn area from soybean area.

Informa was also said to have forecast US 2005 spring wheat planted acreage at 13.5 million acres and durum seedings at 2.60 million, according to trade sources.

In 2004, the US Department of Agriculture listed corn plantings at 80.9 million acres and soybean acreage at 75.2 million. For wheat in 2004, the USDA had listed spring wheat seedings at 13.8 million and durum plantings at 2.56 million.

The USDA is scheduled to release the 2005 US planting intentions report on March 31.
