Argentine pig industry to modernise identification system

The Argentine Senate has decided to modernise its pig industry's identification system, according to official news reports.

In the new situation, pig producers are allowed to use ear-tags, tattoos and electronic devices, next to brand marking and cuttings.

In addition, the period in which the animals will have to be marked, will be brought back from six months to 45 days.

The government hopes that by applying these changes, the traceability in the food production chain should improve and product security increased.

This act in accordance with international conventions would be necessary, especially for future growth of exports.
