Russia imports more beef and dairy cattle
Russia is gradually stepping up imports of pedigree cattle, especially beef and dairy cattle from Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany and Denmark.
Reduced cattle numbers in Russia and excess cattle in the whole of western Europe prompted the rise in imports, which are currently destined for 30 Russian regions.
The average wholesale price set by western European producers is presently EUR1,800/head, at least triple the Russian price.
