Egg prices in Beijing rose 20 percent on-year
 

 

Egg prices in Beijing during February rose 20 percent on-year as congested roads and other logistical problems delayed egg deliveries from outside the capital.

 

February was also the month of the Spring Festival when traditionally, egg demand was at its peak.

 

However, the price of most food categories grew, reflecting the growing affluence of the city's residents.

 

Overall, the price of food grew 2.9 percent in Beijing during February this year, according to statistics published by Beijing Municipal Statistical Bureau.

 

Grain prices grew 5.8 percent; oil, 12.4 percent; meat, fowl and other products, 9.4 percent; fresh eggs, 20.1 percent; aquatic products, 3.1 percent; and fresh vegetables price dropped 6.1 percent.
