From Mar 16-18, the International Livestock and Dairy Expo (ILDEX) in Vietnam managed to register some 10,500 visitors, surpassing the organisers' expectations of a 10,000-strong visitor crowd.

Many of the visitors were local farmers, technicians, traders and other professionals from sectors of the Vietnamese livestock industry. In fact, there were delegates from 10 provinces such as Tay Ninh, Tra Vinh, Ben Tre, Hau Giang, Tien Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Dong Nai and Binh Duong. Some of these provinces are located 200-400 kilometres away from Ho Chi Minh City.

The fully-booked exhibition of 102 booths spanned 1,000 square metres of the Ho Chi Minh International Exhibition and Convention Centre (HIECC) and drew a healthy 4,000-strong visitor crowd on its opening day.

Organised by NCC Exhibition Organizer Co Ltd (NEO) from Thailand and co-organised by Vietnam National Trade Fair and Advertising Company (VINEXAD), the exhibition was sponsored by both the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD) and the Ministry of Trade of Vietnam.

There were many international exhibitor companies and they included Big Dutchman International, Biomin, Exafan, Meyn Food Processing Technology and Kuhn SA. Also present were Chinese companies such as Shandong Luxi Animal Medicine Share Co, Chengdu Golden Phoenix Liquid Nitrogen Container Co and Shenyang Aerospace Xingguang Cryogenic Vessel.

For the first two days of the exhibition, there were industry seminars presented by the British Pig Association, National Renderer's Association, Bestar Association, Intervet and Asia Pacific Co Ltd. MARD also held a seminar on the second day which gave an overview of livestock production in Vietnam.
