Ukraine's pig population up 6% in January
In January 2010, Ukraine's pig population surged by 6% or 430,700 heads compared with December 2009, to 7.56 million heads as of February 1, 2010, the State Statistics Committee has reported.
Pig population in private farms rose by 8.3% or 317,300 heads to 4.152 million heads, and by 3.4% or 113,400 heads to 3.413 million heads in specialised farms, compared to December 2009.
The pig population rose by 16.4% or 1.067 million heads against February 1, 2009.
Specifically, pig population grew by 22.1% or 618,300 heads in specialised farms, and by 12.1% or 449,100 heads in private farms.
According to reports, in December the pig population went down by 4.2% or 312,200 heads compared with November, to 7.135 million heads as of January 1, 2010.
