China imported 3.26 million tonnes of soy in February, an on-year increase of 61.2 percent, according to the China Customs.

The Customs also revealed that soy imports reached a record high of 37.44 million tonnes in 2008.

Meanwhile, Heilongjiang's soy association disclosed that most edible oil plants in the province have halted operation as they obtain less oil from China-produced soy than from imported ones and thus they incur more losses.
