South Africa's white corn exports rises
South Africa exported 8,891 tonnes of white corn last week, up from 8,115 tonnes the week before, the South African Grain Information Service said Tuesday (March 18, 2008).
The consignment brings white corn exports since April last year to 285,670 tonnes, creeping closer to the 459,158 tonnes exported the previous season.
White corn imports for the week were up at 1,067 tonnes from 646 tonnes shipped the week before, bringing the total to 29,783 tonnes.
There were no yellow corn imports for the week and the total remains 1.073 million tonnes, while yellow corn exports rose to 1,293 tonnes from 1,063 tonnes the week before. A total of 64,140 tonnes have been exported so far this season.
The country imported 1,946 tonnes of wheat last week, down sharply from 17,695 tonnes the week before, Sagis said. The consignment, which came from Argentina, brought imports since October last year to 839,946 tonnes.
Wheat exports for the week also declined to 4,896 tonnes from 5,897 tonnes exported the week before, bringing exports so far this season to 88,075 tonnes.
