Ukraine's grain stocks up 21 percent on-year
Grain stocks in Ukraine on March 1 totaled 12 million metric tonnes, 21 percent more than on March 1 2007, the state statistics committee reported Tuesday (March 18, 2008).
Wheat stocks totaled 5.5 million tonnes, 22 percent more than a year ago.
Grain stocks held by farmers on the date totaled 4.3 million tonnes, 26 percent more than on the same date last year. The figure included 1.5 million tonnes of wheat, an increase of 43 percent on the year.
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2007 of 29.3 million tonnes was 14.5 percent less than in 2006.
